UHC user manual

Set your target. Bowl normally. Read your report.

A quick guide to your first session. The app walks you through each step, and this guide changes as the app does.

01

Before you start

  • An Android phone. Compatible phones will be listed on the Play Store.
  • A tripod. The phone must not move during the session.
  • Space behind the stumps at the bowler's end, 8 to 10 feet back, in line with the pitch.
  • A well-lit net. Bright, even light, and a background that doesn't blend in with the colour of the ball.
  • Charge and storage. Start with a charged phone and some free space for the session's clips.

02

Place the phone

UHC watches from behind the bowler, looking down the pitch the way the ball travels.

  1. Set the tripod 8 to 10 feet behind the stumps at the bowler's end, pointing straight down the pitch towards the batter's stumps.
  2. Raise it to a good height so the full pitch is in view, and tilt the phone slightly down towards the pitch.
  3. Lock the tripod so the phone can't tilt or turn. If it moves, calibrate again.

Keep the pitch clear of bags and people. Anything between the lens and the ball hides it. The app has the full setup guide.

03

Start a session

  1. Open UHC and tap New session.
  2. Set whether you're bowling to a right- or left-handed batter.
  3. Pick your target line and length. This is what every ball in the session is measured against.
  4. Confirm, and the app moves on to calibration.

04

Calibrate

Once your target is set, the app takes you to calibration. It shows UHC where the pitch is, so it can measure line and length properly.

  1. Follow the in-app guide. It takes a moment.
  2. When calibration is done, you're ready to bowl.

Recalibrate whenever the phone is moved or you change nets.

05

Bowl

Bowl as you normally would. UHC saves a short clip of each delivery on its own, so nobody needs to touch the phone and you can focus on bowling.

When you're done, end the session and run the analysis. UHC builds your report from the analysed balls.

06

Read your report

Each ball is placed in a length zone and a line zone, then compared with your target.

Length zones

  1. Yorker
  2. Full
  3. Good length
  4. Back of a length
  5. Short

Line zones

  1. Within the stumps
  2. Outside off
  3. Wide outside off
  4. On the legs
  5. Wide down leg

Line zones flip for left-handed batters.

  • Line accuracy: how often you hit your target line.
  • Length accuracy: how often you hit your target length.
  • Session accuracy: line and length together.
  • Pitch map: where every analysed ball landed.
  • Estimated release speed of the balls bowled: slowest, average and fastest.
  • Ask UHC: what the session shows and what to work on next.

07

Squad Play

Bowling with friends? Start a squad and add up to six bowlers. They share one phone and take turns, following the rotation in the app. Each bowler sets their own target and gets their own results.

08

Ask UHC

After a session, open Ask UHC and ask about it in your own words, like "Which length did I bowl most often?" or "What can I practise to bowl fuller?". It answers from your session results with general guidance and practice ideas. Use it alongside your coach, not instead of one.

09

Tips and fixes

Some balls weren't captured
Check that the whole pitch is in view and nothing blocks the lens.
Line or length looks wrong
The phone probably moved. Calibrate again.
Poor light
Even, bright light works best. Avoid pointing the phone into low sun.
